Movement: A change or development, an act of moving, a shift in position, a series of organized activities working concertedly toward some goal
“The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
There is an influx of positive motivations going around living in the Now. How we are to drink in every moment as this is our present reality. Tomorrow is not promised and yesterday is dead and buried. Let me not negate the importance of enjoying and savouring of the moment we find ourselves in, it definitely adds to your experience and hopefully at the end of your day you are filled with a sense of achievement and delight. I however have seen the wasting away of an existence into tomorrow by only living for today. Blame it on ADD, impulsivity, the need for instant gratification, a feeling of the world owes you (Im taking this chance because I never had it when I was young) or a don’t-care attitude for tomorrow. So while enjoying the present moment, what happens when tomorrow in fact does turn up and then the ensuing tomorrows?
Just today I complimented someone on his wonderful voice, and recommended that he perhaps apply to a radio station or recording studio for voice overs, radio DJ or even as an MC. Do you know that he smiled sheepishly at me and said that it has always been a dream of his to do just that, but because he has no idea where to start, he has never pursued his goal? It seemed to me that his fear of the unknown has limited him, his lack of alternative thinking has not led him to bother to find out where he can begin reaching out for answers. Perhaps he will never take the advice I gave him, perhaps his thirst for advancement in that particular area in his life is not pressing enough or perhaps the fire has been stoked in his mind and now will make the change. Only time will tell what his decision will be and what he will choose.
The quote above leaves me to wonder about the doers and the followers. It stands to reason that we would not have evolved as the human race had we all only lived for the moment and never wanted to find out more, do more, improve what we have or travel further than the boundaries of what we know. Where do you fit in?
Are you paving a way for yourself? Have you decided on where you want to be in 5 years’ time? Do you even care? If you want more, do you expect to ride on others goals and ideas and let them carry you forward? Do you always play by the rules or expectation that society has put in front of you? Do you only climb the stairs you see, or do you seek another route? How much have you achieved in your existence so far? Are you where you are because that’s where you have been all your life and are happy with that? Are you the type of person that happily moves from one activity to the next every day? Do you like the same routines that keep you happy and secure? Do you feel that you need a push before you will move forward? Are you a self-starter? Do you feel perhaps that you will step on toes if you go ahead and do the things you want to? Perhaps you hate loose ends and feel the need to step in and help – not to the extent as to take over, but moreover to help? Do you have or lack the courage to take on new things?
I would be so very interested to find out what works for you and why.
