"Something must be left to chance; nothing is sure in a sea fight beyond all others" Horatio Lord Nelson 1758 - 1805
It is never easy for us to be relaxed about life when our best laid plans go awry. We set goals, plot our paths, anticipate and expect things to fall into place without hiccups. In such a rigid mind-set we may be blinded to what else is brewing behind the scenes. We have our blinkers on, our eyes never lose sight of our goals, and our heart is set on the projected outcome which in effect robs us of the joy that comes from experiencing the actual trip. Life is not fair and curve-balls are thrown at us randomly - a fact as sure as the law of gravity and the sooner we accept that, the less stress we will have in general. Life is a never ending variety of delicious flavours and if we choose to only eat the foods we love we will remain in our comfort zones. We do not allow opportunity to shift our focus. We do not allow potential lessons in life to be experienced. What a shame! I am not advocating that we drift aimlessly either, do not mis-understand me. I do however want to pose an alternative perspective for you to ponder over this weekend.
Opportunities lie in all facets of life if we can just visualise or accept that a positive result can come out of having our world shaken up. There is good in every bad scenario and looking back in your own life years from now, hopefully you will be able to gain insight and wisdom.
Let me shake your pre-conceived ideas a little with the following:
Retrenchment might bring you to the realisation that the career you followed was not truly satisfying
Divorce may open you up to receive new love and light through another person
Death can cause you to rethink your life choices and enable you to truly appreciate what really matters to you
Bankruptcy may be a lesson in which you learn how to do better business
Betrayal can teach you how to forgive and harbour no ill feelings
Rejection might motivate you to improve and/or accepting yourself
Depression may be an opportunity to learn how to deal with stressors in life and love yourself through it all
I would like you to remember a time in your life when you thought that nothing would ever go right for you. A time perhaps when things were dark and you were unhappy. Reflect then take cognisance of the areas in which you have grown through changes imposed on you by life and celebrate the changes!
Never let any opportunity that presents itself to you, pass you by. The possibilities are endless.... remember that you regret more the things you didn’t do than the things you did!!
